McCalla Avenue is where I grew up in East Knoxville, Tennessee. My first memories of that house were at about five years old, trying to kick a football over the fence in that tiny backyard. My parents were older, and I thought my name was “Oops” for the first several years of my life.
My father left school in the eighth grade to help provide for his family. He was one of the kindest men I have ever known. My mother insured I knew the value of education and shared my father’s work ethic. I grew up with beans and cornbread and love that you knew was there because you could feel it. I listened to country music and my dad’s stories about his Great Uncle Jess playing the Grand Ole Opry with Roy Acuff. These are the kinds of memories that made that tiny house on McCalla Avenue my whole life.
The 1960s and 1970s were a turbulent era. I was blessed with an Army ROTC scholarship and a subsequent amazing life. From the military, to business, to music, what started on McCalla Avenue has truly been more than I could ever have hoped for.
I have spent many years volunteering with organizations all over the country. I have served on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity and was President of the Board of Directors for Operation Stand Down (Nashville, TN). I have also worked as an International Judge with Odyssey of the Mind/Destination Imagination and volunteered with the Presbytery of Middle Tennessee on their Guatemalan Water Missions.
You can probably tell by now that McCalla Unlimited, LLC was formed to constantly remind me that we can do anything in life, and we are truly unlimited. I want to help those who have not had the opportunities I have enjoyed, whether it is resolving problems or having their music heard. Join me on this journey and believe that we are unlimited…..
